Nearly 200 Workers Ditch Sham PPPWU for Real Union Representation

(YPSILANTI, Mich.) – Workers at Pollard Banknote have voted overwhelmingly to dump the Printing Packaging & Production Workers Union (PPPWU) and join Teamsters Local 337.

The group of workers –– including press operators, machine technicians and assistants, and folder operators and assistants –– produce lottery tickets that are used by several states and countries. They were deeply frustrated with the PPPWU’s failure to effectively represent them and unionized with Local 337 to gain a strong voice on the job.

“The PPPWU never did anything to help with our grievances. They only showed up during contract time and agreed to horrible deals. My message to other workers represented by the PPPWU is to not let that sham union fool you –– things don’t have to be this way,” said Jeremy Helton, a 10-year maintenance technician and proud new member of Local 337. “While the PPPWU does nothing but lie, the Teamsters give you transparency. Right from the start Local 337 treated us like brothers and sisters rather than a meal ticket. We can’t wait to see what that translates to as we bargain for a new contract.”

With strong Teamsters representation, Pollard Banknote workers are prepared to fight for a contract guaranteeing them higher pay, better benefits, and improved work conditions.

“Local 337 and I are thrilled to welcome 180 new brothers and sisters of Pollard Banknote into our union,” said Todd Lince, President of Local 337. “Our organizing committee worked extremely hard for this victory, and we’re ready to keep the momentum growing.”
